I've resisted posting about my all time favorite gadget, since there are *literally* thousands of blogs that not only write about them, but are solely devoted to them.
I'm talking about my iPhone.
So, I don't want to get all fanboi about it, but a recent post in a discussion forum really struck me -- it sums up my feelings perfectly. Here it is, thanks to John Abella of Greenlawn NY.
"I've had 10 or 11 different blackberry models (up through the curve). I've had 3 different palms, and even a Handspring. I've had a Treo, ericssons, Nokias, motorolas, LG's, samsungs, and a few things I can't remember. I had a Dell Axim Winmo device. Shit, I had an audiovox.
Some of which had longer battery life, or maybe louder speakerphones, or even better call quality.
None of which came close to the ease of use in real life situations that the iPhone has. Pick up any phone you like. Find the three closest starbucks. I guarantee I'll do it faster. Find out how long it'll take to get to an address -- with current traffic. I guarantee I'll do it faster.
Watching people fumble with Google Maps on a blackberry makes me anxious, it's so kludgey.
The apps are definitely a big thing, I've got a few that I consider essential that'll probably be ported to other OS's eventually, but having 100,000 to choose from certainly helps. There's nothing that I do with my phone on a daily basis that feels like a hack. Nothing feels unpolished. Hook it up to iTunes, it automatically grabs my smart playlists, my newest podcasts, and my smart photo albums.
I don't want a phone that's going to rattle, or get loose, or wear out over time. I don't want a phone with robot themed sounds and wallpapers. I don't want to have to carry a camera, a phone, and an iPod everwhere. Everybody I know / anywhere I go has iPod cables / chargers around. Car kits. Hotels. Friends. Even my parents.
I've got no qualms about paying an ETF, or dropping contracts, or having to shell out for the latest and greatest. If there was something that I felt was better, I'd be on it in a second. It's not about megahertz or megapixels or DPI or any other stat. It's about a complete package that nobody else has IMO."
Absolutely.
